Key Responsibilities
- Receive patients professionally and verify their identity before every imaging examination.
- Review examination requests to confirm the appropriateness of imaging procedures.
- Prepare patients by explaining examination processes clearly and addressing their concerns.
- Position patients accurately to obtain diagnostic-quality medical images.
- Operate radiographic and imaging equipment according to approved professional procedures.
- Produce clear and accurate diagnostic images that support clinical decision-making.
- Apply radiation protection principles to safeguard patients, colleagues, and visitors.
- Monitor radiation exposure and ensure compliance with established safety standards.
- Assess image quality before releasing examinations for clinical interpretation.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential patient imaging records.
- Verify patient information before performing any radiological procedure.
- Observe infection prevention and control practices throughout all imaging activities.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of radiology examination rooms.
- Perform routine operational checks on imaging equipment before daily use.
- Report equipment faults promptly for maintenance and corrective action.
- Support preventive maintenance schedules for diagnostic imaging equipment.
- Ensure imaging accessories are available, functional, and safely stored.
- Assist clinicians by providing timely imaging services for patient management.
- Respond professionally during emergency and urgent diagnostic situations.
- Prioritize examinations according to clinical urgency and departmental guidelines.
- Counsel patients and caregivers before, during, and after imaging procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with healthcare teams across departments.
- Observe ethical standards and protect patient confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Conduct routine quality control procedures on imaging systems.
- Ensure proper documentation of completed examinations and imaging reports.
- Participate in continuing professional development and technical training programs.
- Support implementation of national healthcare policies and imaging standards.
- Maintain adequate stocks of imaging consumables and report shortages.
- Promote a culture of patient safety and exceptional customer service.
- Follow established protocols for handling sensitive diagnostic information.
- Assist with orientation of newly assigned staff where required.
- Participate in departmental audits and compliance assessments.
- Prepare periodic activity reports as requested by supervisors.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, and reliability in daily duties.
- Perform any other official responsibilities assigned within the Department of Health Services consistent with the scope of the position.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Radiography, Medical Imaging Sciences, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.
- Valid practicing license issued by the appropriate regulatory authority.
- Demonstrated understanding of diagnostic imaging procedures and radiation safety principles.
- Eligibility to work within the public health sector in Kenya.
