Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in accordance with approved nursing standards, professional ethics, and Ministry of Health guidelines.
- Assess patients thoroughly through observation, interviews, clinical examinations, and review of medical history before initiating appropriate nursing interventions.
- Develop individualized nursing care plans that address patient needs and promote positive health outcomes.
- Implement prescribed treatment plans while monitoring patient progress and documenting all clinical observations accurately.
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust nursing interventions in collaboration with attending clinicians.
- Provide maternal healthcare services including antenatal care, labour support, postnatal monitoring, and newborn assessments.
- Administer childhood immunization services while maintaining accurate vaccination records.
- Support Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) activities and monitor child growth and development.
- Participate in Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) programs according to national healthcare protocols.
- Offer family planning information, counselling, and reproductive health education to eligible clients.
- Deliver health education sessions covering disease prevention, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene, healthy lifestyles, and medication adherence.
- Counsel patients and families on managing chronic illnesses and maintaining healthy living practices.
- Provide first aid and emergency nursing care during medical emergencies.
- Refer patients requiring specialized treatment to appropriate healthcare facilities promptly.
- Facilitate safe patient admissions, transfers, and discharge planning while ensuring continuity of care.
- Maintain complete, confidential, and accurate patient records using approved documentation systems.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and promptly report abnormal findings to the supervising clinician.
- Administer medications safely while observing correct dosage, timing, and documentation procedures.
- Assist clinicians during medical examinations and specialized procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and infection prevention standards throughout assigned clinical areas.
- Ensure proper sterilization, storage, and handling of medical equipment and supplies.
- Participate in disease surveillance activities and public health reporting.
- Support community outreach programs targeting health promotion and preventive healthcare.
- Participate in vaccination campaigns, health screening exercises, and community awareness initiatives.
- Collect healthcare data and compile routine reports for departmental planning and evaluation.
- Monitor availability of essential medicines and nursing supplies while reporting shortages promptly.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to improve patient care coordination.
- Mentor junior staff, nursing students, and interns during clinical placements where assigned.
- Observe patient rights, dignity, confidentiality, and informed consent throughout healthcare delivery.
- Respond professionally to patient concerns while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
- Work efficiently during day, night, weekend, public holiday, and emergency shifts as scheduled.
- Support implementation of quality improvement initiatives within healthcare facilities.
- Participate in disaster preparedness and emergency response activities when required.
- Comply fully with Nursing Council of Kenya regulations and County Government policies.
- Perform any additional healthcare responsibilities assigned by authorized supervisors within the Department of Health Services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery, or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry** from a recognized institution.
- Valid Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Valid Practicing License issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.
