Key Responsibilities
- Mobilize community members to actively participate in public health education programs and preventive healthcare initiatives.
- Conduct community sensitization forums on sanitation, environmental conservation, hygiene promotion, and disease prevention.
- Identify environmental health risks affecting households, schools, markets, and other public places.
- Assess community health conditions and recommend practical interventions that improve public wellbeing.
- Refer individuals requiring specialized medical attention to appropriate healthcare facilities.
- Participate in immunization outreach activities and support vaccination awareness campaigns.
- Promote proper hand hygiene, safe water handling, and household sanitation practices.
- Support implementation of environmental health policies and county public health programs.
- Carry out inspections of residential compounds, trading centres, institutions, and public facilities to ensure compliance with health regulations.
- Monitor sanitation standards within communities and recommend corrective measures where necessary.
- Participate in surveillance activities aimed at detecting public health threats at an early stage.
- Assist in disease outbreak preparedness, response, monitoring, and reporting activities.
- Implement integrated mosquito control interventions to minimize vector-borne diseases.
- Support rodent, vermin, and other vector control activities within assigned communities.
- Participate in environmental sanitation improvement initiatives throughout the county.
- Inspect pit latrines, waste disposal facilities, drainage systems, and sanitation infrastructure.
- Monitor healthcare waste handling and disposal practices in health facilities.
- Support infection prevention and environmental cleanliness initiatives within healthcare institutions.
- Collect, verify, and maintain accurate public health records and community service reports.
- Prepare timely field reports to support planning, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
- Educate families on prevention of communicable and environmentally related diseases.
- Promote healthy housing standards and safe settlement planning practices.
- Participate in community health days and outreach campaigns organized by the county.
- Collaborate with community health promoters, healthcare workers, and local leadership.
- Support implementation of food hygiene and environmental sanitation awareness activities.
- Encourage proper waste segregation, disposal, recycling, and environmental protection practices.
- Participate in emergency public health interventions whenever required.
- Assist in identifying high-risk areas requiring targeted public health interventions.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct during all field assignments.
- Ensure compliance with national environmental health legislation and county policies.
- Participate in continuous professional development and technical capacity-building programs.
- Support implementation of quality improvement initiatives within public health services.
- Promote teamwork and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary health teams.
- Utilize computer applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Perform additional public health assignments as directed by supervisors within the Department of Health Services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council.
- Valid practicing license.
- Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated understanding of environmental health principles and preventive healthcare.
- Knowledge of public health legislation, sanitation standards, and disease prevention strategies.
