Key Responsibilities
- Dispense oncology medicines accurately while strictly adhering to approved treatment protocols and medication safety standards.
- Verify prescriptions to ensure correctness, completeness, and clinical appropriateness before dispensing medicines.
- Provide professional counseling to oncology patients regarding medicine administration, storage, precautions, expected benefits, and possible side effects.
- Educate patients and caregivers on treatment adherence and safe handling of specialized cancer medicines.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy registers, dispensing records, and controlled drug documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor medicine stock levels and recommend timely replenishment to prevent shortages of essential oncology medicines.
- Participate in receiving, checking, storing, and issuing pharmaceutical products using established inventory procedures.
- Ensure proper storage conditions for medicines requiring temperature monitoring and specialized handling.
- Perform regular stock reconciliation and support periodic pharmaceutical inventory audits.
- Report expired, damaged, or obsolete pharmaceutical products following approved disposal procedures.
- Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient treatment plans.
- Participate in medication safety initiatives aimed at reducing dispensing errors and improving patient outcomes.
- Assist in implementing pharmaceutical quality assurance programs within oncology pharmacy services.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the pharmacy dispensing area.
- Observe infection prevention and control standards during medicine preparation and dispensing activities.
- Support pharmacovigilance by documenting and reporting suspected adverse drug reactions.
- Promote rational medicine use through professional guidance and evidence-based pharmaceutical practice.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient records and clinical information at all times.
- Prepare routine pharmaceutical reports required by supervisors and relevant authorities.
- Participate in departmental meetings, clinical discussions, and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Guide junior pharmaceutical staff and students during practical learning where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with Pharmacy and Poisons Board regulations and institutional policies.
- Monitor medicine expiry dates and implement first-expiry-first-out inventory practices.
- Participate in emergency response activities involving pharmaceutical services when required.
- Contribute to development and review of pharmacy standard operating procedures.
- Maintain accountability for medicines entrusted under personal responsibility.
- Assist in implementation of digital pharmacy record management systems where available.
- Promote professional ethics and integrity in every aspect of pharmaceutical service delivery.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities to enhance technical competence.
- Perform any other pharmaceutical duties assigned within the Department of Health Services consistent with the position.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Oncology Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
- Registration Certificate issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
- Valid Pharmacy and Poisons Board Practicing License.
- Demonstrated understanding of oncology pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical regulations.
- Excellent professional ethics and commitment to quality healthcare service.
