Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the Corporate Communications Department while ensuring achievement of departmental objectives and organizational priorities.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and continuously improve comprehensive corporate communication strategies aligned with GDC's strategic goals.
- Prepare annual departmental work plans, operational budgets, procurement schedules, and performance targets while ensuring prudent utilization of available resources.
- Lead corporate branding initiatives that strengthen organizational identity, visibility, and public confidence.
- Direct media relations by cultivating productive relationships with journalists, editors, broadcasters, and other media stakeholders.
- Oversee preparation of press releases, speeches, executive communication materials, newsletters, publications, presentations, and official statements.
- Coordinate internal communication initiatives that promote employee engagement, organizational alignment, and effective information sharing.
- Supervise external communication programmes across traditional media, digital platforms, corporate publications, and stakeholder engagement forums.
- Manage corporate reputation by proactively identifying communication risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate planning and execution of corporate events, official ceremonies, exhibitions, conferences, public forums, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Monitor public perception and media coverage while providing timely communication advice to senior management.
- Evaluate effectiveness of communication campaigns using measurable performance indicators and recommend continuous improvements.
- Strengthen customer experience initiatives by ensuring consistent, responsive, and professional communication standards.
- Guide implementation of social media strategies that enhance public engagement and organizational visibility.
- Mentor departmental staff through coaching, performance management, skills development, and succession planning initiatives.
- Foster collaboration with internal departments to ensure communication activities support operational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable communication policies, government regulations, corporate governance principles, and ethical standards.
- Coordinate crisis communication planning and provide leadership during emergency communication situations.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with government agencies, development partners, community representatives, industry associations, and other strategic stakeholders.
- Prepare management reports highlighting departmental achievements, communication outcomes, emerging risks, and strategic recommendations for executive decision-making.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mass Media, Journalism, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Communication and Public Relations, Community Development, Social Sciences, or another closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Master's Degree in Mass Media, Journalism, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Communication and Public Relations, Community Development, Social Sciences, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Management course lasting at least four cumulative weeks.
- Membership in PRSK, MSK, or another relevant professional body.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
