The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate diagnosis through clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations, and advanced diagnostic techniques. They will design and implement individualized treatment plans that incorporate chemotherapy protocols, transfusion therapy, and supportive care tailored to each patient’s needs. A strong emphasis will be placed on preventing, identifying, and managing treatment-related complications such as infections, bleeding disorders, organ toxicity, and metabolic emergencies. Working within a multidisciplinary framework, the Paediatric Haemato-oncologist will collaborate closely with specialists in pathology, radiology, surgery, palliative care, transfusion medicine, and intensive care to ensure coordinated and holistic patient management. The role includes provision of both inpatient and outpatient services, as well as emergency consultations for critically ill patients requiring urgent intervention. Responsibilities for Paediatric Haemato-oncologist REF No: V/EMP/3/2026 in Kenya

- Prevent, identify, and manage complications such as febrile neutropenia, bleeding disorders, anaemia, and organ toxicity.
- Coordinate transfusion services, including blood and blood product administration, ensuring adherence to safety and compatibility standards.
- Collaborate with transfusion medicine specialists for advanced interventions such as exchange transfusions where indicated.
- Provide inpatient, outpatient, and emergency consultations for paediatric haemato-oncology patients.
- Participate actively in tumour boards and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to optimize patient management strategies.
- Coordinate care with other specialties including pathology, radiology, surgery, palliative care, and intensive care units.
- Counsel patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, risks, benefits, and long-term outcomes.
- Obtain informed consent for procedures and treatments in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient records in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Engage in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, and implementation of best practices in haemato-oncology care.
- Contribute to national and institutional cancer registries and data collection systems.
- Participate in clinical research, clinical trials, and publication of findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Develop and update clinical protocols and guidelines for paediatric haemato-oncology services.
- Teach and mentor junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals in clinical practice and patient care.
