Responsibilities for Chief Nursing Officer in Kenya

• The Chief Nursing Officer will oversee the planning, organization, and management of all nursing services within the healthcare facility. The role involves providing strategic leadership to ensure that nursing operations align with the organization’s mission, policies, and healthcare standards.
• The successful candidate will serve as the lead clinical nurse and Director of Nursing Services, overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department. This includes supervising nursing staff, ensuring compliance with established clinical protocols, and maintaining high standards of patient care across all departments.
• The CNO will ensure that nursing policies, procedures, and best practices are implemented consistently to maintain quality and safety in patient care delivery. They will coordinate nursing activities to ensure efficient service provision and adherence to professional medical and nursing standards.
• Another key responsibility is managing staffing processes within the nursing division. This includes participating in recruitment, assigning work schedules, conducting performance appraisals, and supporting professional development initiatives for nursing personnel. The CNO will mentor staff, encourage continuing education, and ensure that nurses operate within their professional scope of practice.
• The role also involves collaborating with administrative departments such as finance, procurement, and human resources to prepare and manage departmental budgets. The Chief Nursing Officer will ensure effective cost control and optimal utilization of resources including staff, medical supplies, and equipment.
• The CNO will lead quality improvement programs within the nursing department by monitoring patient outcomes, reviewing performance indicators, and implementing corrective actions when necessary. They will also participate in policy formulation, internal audits, and hospital management meetings to contribute to strategic planning.
• Additionally, the Chief Nursing Officer will maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and community stakeholders while addressing patient concerns and complaints in a professional manner. The role requires identifying opportunities for facility improvement and recommending upgrades to equipment, infrastructure, or clinical processes.
