The Assistant Manager ensures that the Bank maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date Regulatory & Statutory Compliance Framework aligned with supervisory expectations and industry standards. This includes maintaining a detailed regulatory universe and compliance register covering applicable banking laws, prudential guidelines, regulatory circulars, reporting obligations, and governance requirements. The role requires close collaboration with Legal, Risk Management, Finance, Operations, Digital Banking, Credit, and other departments to interpret new or amended regulations and translate them into practical, actionable guidance. Regulatory impact assessments are conducted to evaluate how changes in laws or supervisory directives affect products, services, systems, and strategic initiatives. A key component of the role involves coordinating the preparation, validation, and timely submission of all statutory and regulatory returns to relevant authorities such as the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation, Capital Markets Authority, Insurance Regulatory Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority, and Office of the Data Protection Commissioner where applicable. Responsibilities for Assistant Manager-Regulatory & Statutory Compliance in Kenya
- The Assistant Manager-Regulatory & Statutory Compliance plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the Bank operates within the boundaries of all applicable laws, prudential guidelines, and supervisory expectations. Under the Regulatory Compliance Framework, the role is responsible for maintaining and continuously enhancing the Bank’s Regulatory & Statutory Compliance Framework to align with prevailing legislation and prudential standards. This includes maintaining an up-to-date regulatory universe and compliance register that captures all relevant statutes, regulations, circulars, directives, and license conditions applicable to the Bank. Periodic reviews are conducted to ensure compliance obligations remain aligned with evolving regulatory expectations and business developments.
- In the area of Regulatory Monitoring & Advisory, the Assistant Manager proactively monitors changes in legislation, prudential guidelines, and regulatory circulars issued by authorities such as the Central Bank of Kenya and other relevant bodies. The role involves interpreting complex regulatory texts and translating them into clear, practical guidance for business units and senior management. Regulatory impact assessments are conducted to evaluate the implications of new or amended regulations on products, services, operational processes, and strategic initiatives. The Assistant Manager advises on implementation plans to address regulatory changes, ensuring timely and compliant adoption across the Bank.
- Under Regulatory Reporting & Submissions, the role coordinates the preparation, validation, and submission of statutory returns and regulatory reports. This involves ensuring data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness while maintaining regulatory reporting calendars and comprehensive documentation repositories. Data inputs are validated and reconciled prior to submission to minimize reporting errors and regulatory exposure.
- In Policy & Governance Alignment, the Assistant Manager ensures that internal policies and procedures are updated to reflect regulatory changes. The role provides compliance attestations, prepares updates for governance committees, and supports board and management reporting on regulatory matters.
- Regarding Regulatory Inspections & Engagements, the role coordinates responses to supervisory reviews, tracks inspection findings, agrees corrective action plans with stakeholders, and monitors timely closure of identified compliance gaps.
- Through Training & Awareness, the Assistant Manager delivers compliance awareness sessions and promotes understanding of regulatory obligations across business functions, strengthening the Bank’s overall compliance culture and accountability framework.
