The Relationship Manager is expected to understand the unique operational structures, funding cycles, regulatory frameworks, and governance requirements that define institutional clients. By leveraging this knowledge, the officer ensures that UBA Kenya remains a trusted and strategic financial partner capable of delivering innovative, reliable, and compliant banking solutions. Responsibilities for Relationship Manager, Institutional Banking in Kenya
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategic relationship management plans aimed at growing the institutional banking portfolio and achieving assigned revenue, asset, and profitability targets. This includes setting measurable objectives, identifying growth opportunities within the portfolio, and aligning strategies with UBA Kenya’s overall institutional banking goals and performance expectations.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities within government bodies, parastatals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), development agencies, diplomatic missions, educational institutions, and other institutional clients to expand the bank’s market share. Proactively analyze sector trends, funding flows, and institutional financial structures to position UBA Kenya as the preferred banking partner.
- Structure, negotiate, and recommend appropriate credit facilities in close collaboration with credit, risk management, and legal teams. Ensure that all proposals comply with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and prudential standards while balancing risk and return considerations. Conduct thorough financial analysis, risk assessments, and due diligence before recommending facilities for approval.
- Monitor institutional client accounts regularly to ensure optimal utilization of approved facilities, adherence to agreed covenants, and timely repayment of obligations. Address early warning signals promptly and escalate potential risk exposures in line with the bank’s risk management framework.
- Maintain proper and complete documentation throughout the credit application, approval, and disbursement processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness at all times.
- Drive deposit mobilization, fee income growth, foreign exchange (FX) transactions, trade finance activities, and cross-selling of value-added banking products to maximize revenue contribution from institutional clients.
- Conduct regular client visits, high-level engagement meetings, and relationship reviews to understand evolving financial needs and provide customized, forward-thinking banking solutions.
- Prepare detailed weekly and monthly portfolio performance reports, including revenue performance, risk exposure, pipeline analysis, and market intelligence insights for management review and strategic decision-making.
- Initiate and coordinate recovery actions on non-performing facilities in collaboration with credit control and legal departments to minimize losses and protect the bank’s asset quality.
- Maintain an accurate, secure, and up-to-date database of institutional client records, including financial statements, transaction history, facility performance, and prospective client data to support strategic planning and relationship management.
