Job Description

Kenya Pipeline Company PLC (KPC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Internal Auditor (Finance) – Grade KPC 7 to strengthen its Internal Audit function. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of the annual risk-based internal audit plan by providing accurate financial risk information and audit insights.
  • Conduct continuous financial risk assessments to identify emerging risks affecting organizational operations and financial performance.
  • Participate in audit planning meetings to determine audit objectives, scope, timelines, methodologies, and resource requirements.
  • Perform financial audit fieldwork in accordance with approved audit procedures and professional auditing standards.
  • Examine accounting records, financial statements, supporting schedules, and transactional documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of financial controls designed to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Review compliance with accounting policies, financial regulations, internal procedures, and statutory requirements.
  • Verify the accuracy of financial transactions through testing, reconciliation, and analytical review techniques.
  • Collect sufficient, reliable, and relevant audit evidence to support audit observations and recommendations.
  • Analyze financial information to identify control weaknesses, inefficiencies, irregularities, and operational risks.
  • Prepare organized audit working papers that fully document audit procedures and findings.
  • Assist in drafting comprehensive audit reports containing practical recommendations for management.
  • Participate in discussions with departmental representatives regarding audit observations and corrective actions.
  • Monitor implementation of agreed audit recommendations and verify completion of corrective measures.
  • Follow up on previous audit findings and report implementation progress to senior auditors.
  • Participate in investigations, special reviews, and management-requested audit assignments whenever required.
  • Assess the adequacy of financial reporting processes and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Review expenditure controls and evaluate adherence to approved budgets and financial procedures.
  • Assist in evaluating revenue management processes and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Support reviews of procurement transactions to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for strengthening internal controls and improving operational efficiency.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information and audit documentation.
  • Prepare accurate audit schedules, summaries, and supporting documentation within agreed timelines.
  • Apply International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable auditing standards during audit engagements.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues while maintaining professional independence and objectivity.
  • Communicate audit findings clearly through professional written reports and presentations.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed assignments and audit evidence.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development initiatives.
  • Keep up to date with emerging auditing practices, financial regulations, and governance developments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Internal Audit Department.
  • Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, accountability, and ethical conduct in every audit assignment performed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in commerce with Accounting or Finance option, Economics, Business Administration, or another closely related business discipline from a recognized institution. Professional certification in accounting or internal auditing such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and financial reporting systems. A sound understanding of accounting principles, internal control frameworks, financial analysis, auditing methodologies, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and professional auditing standards is essential.
