Key Responsibilities
- Maintain firefighting appliances, equipment, and emergency response tools in good working condition through regular inspections.
- Assist senior firefighters during fire suppression operations involving residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial premises.
- Support emergency rescue activities during road traffic accidents, floods, building collapses, and other disaster incidents.
- Prepare firefighting vehicles and equipment before deployment to emergency scenes.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance programs for firefighting pumps, hoses, ladders, extinguishers, breathing apparatus, and protective clothing.
- Ensure emergency equipment is properly cleaned, stored, and ready for immediate operational use.
- Assist with setting up firefighting equipment at emergency locations under the supervision of senior officers.
- Participate in fire prevention inspections conducted within county facilities and public establishments.
- Help identify potential fire hazards and report safety concerns through appropriate channels.
- Support implementation of disaster preparedness and emergency response plans.
- Participate in routine emergency simulation exercises and firefighting drills.
- Assist in conducting public education campaigns promoting fire prevention and safety awareness.
- Observe established occupational health and safety procedures while carrying out assigned duties.
- Wear and maintain protective equipment according to operational safety standards.
- Assist in crowd management during emergency response operations where necessary.
- Support evacuation activities during fire incidents and other emergencies.
- Respond promptly to emergency alerts whenever called upon for duty.
- Record equipment inspections and maintenance activities accurately.
- Help replenish emergency supplies after operational deployments.
- Assist with station housekeeping to maintain a safe and organized working environment.
- Support inventory management of firefighting equipment and consumable supplies.
- Participate in continuous professional development and emergency response training sessions.
- Work collaboratively with fellow emergency responders to achieve effective incident management.
- Follow lawful instructions issued by supervising officers during emergency operations.
- Demonstrate discipline, professionalism, and accountability while representing the County Government.
- Maintain physical fitness required for demanding emergency response activities.
- Assist in rescue operations involving trapped individuals where appropriate training has been provided.
- Observe confidentiality regarding emergency incidents and operational information.
- Promote teamwork and positive working relationships within the emergency services department.
- Perform additional emergency response and public safety duties assigned by authorized supervisors within the scope of the position.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Applicants should possess a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) or an equivalent qualification recognized in Kenya. Candidates must have successfully completed a Firefighter II Certificate or Fire Management Level 3 Certificate from a recognized firefighting training institution. A valid First Aid Certificate obtained through a course lasting at least one week from St. John Ambulance, Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT), or another recognized institution is mandatory.
- Successful candidates must demonstrate excellent physical fitness and be certified medically fit by a government doctor before appointment. Strong teamwork skills, discipline, integrity, and the ability to work effectively under pressure are essential.
