Job Description

The State Department for Foreign Affairs invites applications from ambitious, highly motivated, and service-oriented graduates for the position of Foreign Service Cadet / Third Secretary Cadet. This opportunity is designed for talented Kenyan graduates who aspire to build a rewarding career representing Kenya's interests across the international community. Successful candidates will begin their professional journey through a structured cadet program that combines intensive learning with practical exposure to diplomatic assignments, preparing them for future responsibilities within Kenya's Foreign Service. This graduate-level program provides an exceptional platform for individuals who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, professionalism, integrity, cultural awareness, and a strong commitment to public service. Cadets will receive comprehensive orientation in diplomatic practice, international cooperation, foreign policy implementation, protocol management, multilateral engagement, and international negotiations. The successful applicants will participate in a specialized Foreign Service Entry Course before transitioning into practical assignments under experienced diplomats and senior government officers. Working within Kenya's diplomatic framework requires officers who can analyze complex international developments, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and contribute meaningfully to national development through international partnerships. During the training period, cadets will gain exposure to policy analysis, global affairs, bilateral and multilateral relations, international law, economic diplomacy, environmental diplomacy, peace-building initiatives, trade promotion, regional integration, and public diplomacy activities. They will also develop practical skills in drafting diplomatic correspondence, preparing policy briefs, conducting research, organizing official engagements, and supporting government delegations. The State Department seeks graduates who possess exceptional analytical abilities, sound judgment, adaptability, ethical leadership, and the willingness to continuously develop professional competencies. Applicants from diverse academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, provided they meet the prescribed qualification requirements. The State Department values diversity of knowledge because modern diplomacy increasingly requires expertise across environmental affairs, economics, technology, governance, law, communication, international development, and global security. Individuals who are eager to learn, capable of adapting to multicultural environments, and committed to advancing Kenya's national interests on the international stage are encouraged to submit their applications before the closing date.
