Job Description

Premier Hospital is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced Laundry Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the hospital's laundry department. This position plays a critical role in supporting patient care by ensuring that hospital linen, staff uniforms, patient garments, and other textiles are cleaned, processed, stored, and distributed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and quality. The successful candidate will coordinate daily laundry activities, supervise departmental staff, monitor equipment performance, maintain inventory records, and ensure compliance with healthcare infection prevention protocols. As Laundry Supervisor, you will lead a dedicated team responsible for delivering timely and reliable laundry services to multiple hospital departments. You will prepare daily work schedules, allocate assignments based on operational priorities, and ensure every stage of the laundering process is completed according to established procedures. From sorting and washing to drying, pressing, folding, packaging, and distribution, you will oversee the entire workflow while maintaining exceptional quality standards. The role requires close collaboration with the Housekeeping Department, nursing units, theatres, outpatient clinics, laboratories, and administrative departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of clean linen and uniforms. You will continuously assess linen circulation, identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, minimize losses, and maintain accurate inventory records that support effective stock management. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all commercial laundry equipment is operated safely, inspected regularly, and serviced according to preventive maintenance schedules. Prompt reporting of equipment faults and coordination with maintenance teams will help reduce operational downtime and maintain consistent service delivery. A key aspect of this role involves promoting workplace safety, infection prevention, environmental sustainability, and proper chemical handling practices. You will ensure detergents, disinfectants, and laundry chemicals are used correctly while minimizing unnecessary consumption and reducing waste. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all daily activities within the hospital laundry department.
  • Allocate work assignments to laundry attendants according to operational priorities.
  • Monitor the complete laundering process including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, packaging, and distribution.
  • Ensure hospital linen, uniforms, patient garments, curtains, towels, and specialized textiles are processed according to approved standards.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections on laundered items before distribution.
  • Verify that damaged, stained, or worn-out linen is identified and removed from circulation.
  • Maintain accurate linen inventory records and perform routine stock reconciliation.
  • Recommend timely replacement of obsolete or damaged linen to maintain operational readiness.
  • Coordinate linen requirements with Housekeeping, Nursing, Theatre, Laboratory, and other hospital departments.
  • Ensure timely collection and delivery of laundry items across all service areas.
  • Monitor turnaround times to achieve departmental service level targets.
  • Supervise guest and VIP laundry requests where applicable and ensure prompt delivery.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the laundry facility.
  • Ensure proper segregation of contaminated linen according to infection prevention guidelines.
  • Enforce safe handling of hospital textiles and biohazard materials.
  • Monitor the proper use of detergents, disinfectants, chemicals, and laundry consumables.
  • Minimize unnecessary water, electricity, steam, and chemical consumption through efficient operational practices.
  • Conduct routine inspections of commercial washing machines, dryers, presses, and finishing equipment.
  • Report equipment faults promptly and coordinate preventive maintenance activities.
  • Maintain maintenance logs and service records for all laundry machinery.
  • Train newly recruited laundry personnel on departmental procedures and safety standards.
  • Supervise staff attendance, productivity, discipline, and professional conduct.
  • Prepare duty rosters that ensure adequate staffing across operational shifts.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide constructive coaching.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous operational improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational safety regulations and hospital infection prevention policies.
  • Monitor proper use of personal protective equipment by all laundry personnel.
  • Maintain departmental documentation including production records, inventory reports, equipment logs, and operational statistics.
  • Prepare routine performance reports for the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Investigate operational challenges and implement practical corrective actions.
  • Support departmental audits and quality assurance assessments.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities affecting housekeeping operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling patient-related laundry services.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and strengthen departmental performance.
  • Support implementation of new laundry technologies and improved operating procedures.
  • Ensure all laundry activities consistently meet established hospital quality standards.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Executive Housekeeper in support of hospital operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Applicants should possess a Diploma or Certificate in Hospitality Management, Housekeeping Management, Laundry Operations, Textile Care, or another closely related discipline from a recognized institution. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of three years of practical experience in commercial laundry operations, preferably within a hospital, hotel, or large institutional environment, including at least one year in a supervisory position. A thorough understanding of industrial washing processes, textile preservation techniques, stain removal procedures, fabric identification, linen inventory management, commercial laundry equipment, and infection prevention practices is essential. Strong leadership, planning, scheduling, communication, and interpersonal skills are required to supervise teams effectively while maintaining a productive working environment.
