Key Responsibilities
- Operate commercial washing machines, dryers, extractors, ironing presses, steam equipment, and folding machines safely and efficiently.
- Sort laundry according to fabric type, colour, washing temperature, and handling requirements before processing.
- Inspect garments and linen carefully for stains, damage, missing items, or special cleaning instructions.
- Apply suitable stain removal techniques using approved cleaning products and established procedures.
- Load washing machines correctly to achieve effective cleaning while preventing damage to fabrics.
- Monitor wash cycles and adjust machine settings according to textile specifications.
- Ensure detergents, softeners, disinfectants, and cleaning chemicals are measured accurately to maintain quality standards.
- Transfer laundry promptly from washers to dryers while preventing contamination or unnecessary delays.
- Iron, press, fold, and package linen and garments according to established organizational presentation standards.
- Maintain accurate records of processed laundry quantities, completed assignments, and operational activities.
- Distribute clean linen and uniforms to designated departments within agreed timelines.
- Receive, count, and verify soiled laundry collected from various operational units.
- Report torn, stained beyond recovery, or damaged linen requiring replacement.
- Perform routine cleaning of laundry equipment to maintain hygiene and operational efficiency.
- Monitor equipment performance and immediately report breakdowns or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free laundry workstations throughout every shift.
- Observe infection prevention, occupational health, and workplace safety procedures at all times.
- Use personal protective equipment appropriately while handling chemicals and contaminated materials.
- Minimize water, electricity, detergent, and fabric wastage through responsible operational practices.
- Support inventory management by monitoring linen stock levels and reporting shortages.
- Assist with periodic stock counts of uniforms, bedding, towels, and other laundry supplies.
- Follow established quality assurance procedures before releasing cleaned items for use.
- Handle customer or departmental requests professionally and respond promptly to urgent laundry needs.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling personal clothing or sensitive organizational materials.
- Work collaboratively with housekeeping and facilities teams to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Participate in workplace training sessions aimed at improving operational efficiency.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Demonstrate punctuality, accountability, and dependability throughout the contract period.
- Perform any additional laundry-related duties assigned by supervisors within the scope of the position.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Housekeeping.
- OR
- At least four (4) years of relevant professional laundry or housekeeping experience.
- Craft certificate or relevant refresher course from the Kenya School of Government.
- Additional Requirements
- Must fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
- Sound knowledge of commercial laundry procedures and fabric care.
- Ability to operate industrial laundry equipment safely.
- Understanding of infection prevention and workplace hygiene practices.
- Knowledge of textile classification and stain treatment techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
