Job Description

The Kenya School of Government is inviting applications from qualified, motivated, and ethically driven professionals for the position of Accountant II on a contract basis. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with approved financial policies and applicable regulations.
  • Process financial transactions while ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization.
  • Prepare payment vouchers and verify supporting documentation before processing payments.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other financial records within established reporting timelines.
  • Monitor departmental expenditure against approved budgets and report variances promptly.
  • Support budget preparation by compiling financial data and expenditure projections.
  • Maintain updated cash books, ledgers, journals, and subsidiary accounting records.
  • Prepare financial schedules required during internal and external audit exercises.
  • Verify invoices, receipts, claims, and payment requests before processing.
  • Monitor outstanding advances and support timely accountability of imprest and advances.
  • Ensure compliance with financial management policies and internal control procedures.
  • Assist in preparing statutory financial reports and management reports.
  • Support revenue accounting activities including receipting and reconciliation of collections.
  • Maintain proper filing systems for financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in financial data analysis to support informed management decisions.
  • Monitor expenditure trends and recommend cost-control initiatives where appropriate.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate fixed asset registers and related accounting records.
