Job Description

The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is inviting applications from highly accomplished finance professionals for the position of Assistant Manager-Management Accounting. Reporting to the Manager – Management Accounting, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in the coordination of management accounting activities while supporting informed decision-making through accurate financial analysis, budgeting, statutory reporting, and performance monitoring. The role demands an individual capable of maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity, transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance across diverse business operations. The successful candidate will oversee the preparation of management accounts, coordinate periodic financial statements, guide budget development processes, monitor expenditure against approved plans, and ensure timely reconciliation of financial records. The position also plays a critical role in interpreting financial policies, strengthening internal controls, supporting external and internal audit processes, managing statutory tax obligations, and promoting adherence to internationally accepted accounting standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts for accurate executive reporting.
  • Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Supervise timely reconciliation of bank accounts and ensure prompt resolution of outstanding financial items.
  • Coordinate departmental budgeting processes by consolidating work plans into realistic financial budgets.
  • Monitor budget utilization and prepare comprehensive variance analysis reports for management review.
  • Interpret organizational financial regulations and ensure consistent application across departments.
  • Strengthen financial governance by implementing effective accounting controls and monitoring compliance.
  • Coordinate responses to both internal and external audit observations while ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Review accounting records to maintain completeness, accuracy, and consistency of financial information.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of management reports that support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
  • Oversee corporate tax, VAT, statutory deductions, and related financial compliance requirements.
  • Support development and implementation of financial management policies and accounting procedures.
  • Provide financial advisory services to departmental managers on budgeting, expenditure control, and cost optimization.
  • Evaluate financial performance trends and recommend improvements that enhance organizational efficiency.
  • Monitor cash utilization patterns and recommend measures that improve financial sustainability.
  • Promote adherence to internal control frameworks that safeguard organizational assets.
  • Guide junior accounting staff through coaching, mentorship, performance management, and technical support.
  • Participate in financial planning initiatives aligned with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Prepare presentations and financial analysis for executive management and Board reporting where required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information while promoting professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous improvement throughout the finance function.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or another relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA
  • K) or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Valid membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
  • Management course lasting at least four (4) cumulative weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in modern accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
