Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with approved financial policies and applicable regulations.
- Process financial transactions while ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization.
- Prepare payment vouchers and verify supporting documentation before processing payments.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other financial records within established reporting timelines.
- Monitor departmental expenditure against approved budgets and report variances promptly.
- Support budget preparation by compiling financial data and expenditure projections.
- Maintain updated cash books, ledgers, journals, and subsidiary accounting records.
- Prepare financial schedules required during internal and external audit exercises.
- Verify invoices, receipts, claims, and payment requests before processing.
- Monitor outstanding advances and support timely accountability of imprest and advances.
- Ensure compliance with financial management policies and internal control procedures.
- Assist in preparing statutory financial reports and management reports.
- Support revenue accounting activities including receipting and reconciliation of collections.
- Maintain proper filing systems for financial records and supporting documentation.
- Participate in financial data analysis to support informed management decisions.
- Monitor expenditure trends and recommend cost-control initiatives where appropriate.
- Assist in maintaining accurate fixed asset registers and related accounting records.
- Collaborate with procurement and administration departments during financial verification processes.
- Prepare schedules supporting year-end financial reporting activities.
- Ensure timely posting of accounting entries into approved financial systems.
- Investigate accounting discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in periodic financial reviews and reconciliation exercises.
- Support implementation of financial policies aimed at strengthening accountability.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and organizational records.
- Assist in responding to audit observations and implementing corrective recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with procurement-related financial documentation requirements.
- Prepare periodic expenditure summaries for departmental management.
- Support implementation of risk management measures within finance operations.
- Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives within the finance department.
- Provide financial information required by management for planning purposes.
- Ensure timely submission of assigned financial reports.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable taxation and statutory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve departmental objectives.
- Support training initiatives involving financial management best practices.
- Perform any other accounting-related duties assigned by authorized supervisors within the scope of the position.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
