Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients across outpatient, inpatient, maternity, emergency, and community healthcare settings.
- Conduct detailed patient assessments and collect accurate medical histories to support effective clinical decision-making.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations while observing established nursing standards and professional ethics.
- Develop individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs, diagnosis, and treatment objectives.
- Implement evidence-based nursing interventions that promote safe, effective, and patient-centered healthcare.
- Continuously monitor patient progress, evaluate treatment outcomes, and recommend appropriate adjustments where necessary.
- Administer medications safely while observing prescribed treatment protocols and medication administration guidelines.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and promptly report abnormal findings to the attending clinician.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records using approved documentation procedures.
- Educate patients and caregivers on disease prevention, medication adherence, nutrition, hygiene, rehabilitation, and healthy living practices.
- Participate actively in maternal, newborn, child health, adolescent, adult, and elderly healthcare programmes.
- Provide emotional support, counselling, and health education to patients and their families.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate holistic patient management.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control procedures throughout clinical practice.
- Promote patient safety by identifying risks and implementing preventive measures within healthcare facilities.
- Participate in quality assurance programmes aimed at improving healthcare service delivery.
- Support disease surveillance, immunization activities, screening programmes, and preventive healthcare initiatives.
- Conduct community health outreach programmes that improve public awareness on common health conditions.
- Participate in health promotion campaigns organized by the County Department of Health.
- Assist in emergency response, disaster preparedness, and mass casualty management whenever required.
- Monitor the availability and proper utilization of nursing supplies, medical equipment, and consumables.
- Report equipment malfunction, safety concerns, and supply shortages through established reporting channels.
- Participate in clinical audits and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Uphold professional nursing ethics, patient dignity, confidentiality, and respect for human rights.
- Guide junior staff, students, and interns during supervised clinical practice whenever assigned.
- Attend departmental meetings, professional development programmes, and mandatory training sessions.
- Support implementation of national healthcare policies, nursing standards, and County health strategies.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, colleagues, supervisors, and other healthcare stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of healthcare delivery through innovation, accountability, and teamwork.
- Perform any additional healthcare responsibilities assigned by authorized supervisors within the Department of Health Services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Valid Practicing License issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Registration Certificate from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.
