Job Description

Kwale County Public Service Board is inviting applications from dedicated, ethical, and patient-focused professionals for the position of Physiotherapist III – Job Group 'H' within the Department of Health Services. Treatment approaches will include therapeutic exercise programs, manual therapy techniques, electrotherapy modalities, hydrotherapy where available, posture correction, gait training, balance improvement, pain management strategies, and patient education. Beyond direct patient care, the role involves maintaining accurate clinical documentation, monitoring treatment progress, evaluating rehabilitation outcomes, and collaborating with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, nutritionists, clinical officers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient management. The successful candidate will also participate in health education initiatives, rehabilitation awareness campaigns, operational research activities, and quality improvement programs that strengthen physiotherapy services within county health facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional physiotherapy assessment and treatment services for both inpatient and outpatient clients.
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations to identify functional impairments and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient goals.
  • Deliver therapeutic exercise programs that improve strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, and mobility.
  • Administer manual therapy techniques using evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Apply electrotherapy modalities safely according to approved treatment protocols.
  • Facilitate hydrotherapy sessions where appropriate and monitor patient response.
  • Evaluate musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, pediatric, and geriatric rehabilitation needs.
  • Assist patients recovering from surgery, injury, illness, or long-term disability.
  • Educate patients on home exercise programs and long-term rehabilitation strategies.
  • Monitor patient progress and revise treatment plans whenever clinically necessary.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential patient treatment records.
  • Verify patient information and ensure documentation complies with professional standards.
  • Prepare rehabilitation progress reports and discharge summaries.
  • Collaborate with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote patient safety throughout rehabilitation procedures.
  • Provide mobility assessments and recommend suitable assistive devices where necessary.
  • Support fall prevention initiatives through balance and mobility training.
  • Participate in community rehabilitation outreach activities.
  • Conduct health education sessions on injury prevention and healthy movement practices.
  • Collect rehabilitation data to support operational research and service improvement.
  • Assist in monitoring departmental performance indicators.
  • Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure physiotherapy equipment is handled correctly and maintained appropriately.
  • Report faulty rehabilitation equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Observe infection prevention and control procedures during all patient interactions.
  • Maintain professional ethics, confidentiality, and patient dignity at all times.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development programs.
  • Support mentorship of junior healthcare staff and students where assigned.
  • Contribute to health promotion campaigns organized by the county.
  • Comply with Ministry of Health policies and Physiotherapy Council of Kenya regulations.
  • Respond professionally to patient concerns and provide compassionate care.
  • Work efficiently within established clinical schedules while maintaining service quality.
  • Prepare periodic departmental reports as required.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities assigned within the County Health Department in accordance with the scope of practice.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution.
  • Valid Certificate of Registration from the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya (PCK).
  • Current Practicing Certificate issued by the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya.
  • Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.
  • Eligibility to work within the Kenyan public healthcare system.
  • Good professional standing and ethical conduct.
