Job Description

Kwale County Public Service Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified, motivated, and service-oriented professionals to fill the position of **Occupational Therapist III within the Department of Health Services. This appointment is offered on Permanent and Pensionable terms and presents an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality rehabilitation and therapeutic services across county healthcare facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to determine each patient's physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional, and functional capabilities.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, patient priorities, and rehabilitation goals.
  • Deliver occupational therapy interventions that improve independence in daily living, self-care, mobility, work, school, and community participation.
  • Evaluate patients recovering from illness, injury, surgery, neurological disorders, developmental conditions, or disabilities.
  • Recommend appropriate therapeutic activities that enhance strength, coordination, balance, motor skills, and functional performance.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on rehabilitation techniques, adaptive equipment, home modifications, and safe daily practices.
  • Monitor treatment progress through continuous assessment and modify intervention plans whenever clinical needs change.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient records in accordance with professional and legal requirements.
  • Prepare rehabilitation reports, progress summaries, discharge recommendations, and referral documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Support early intervention programs for children with developmental challenges.
  • Assist elderly patients in maintaining independence through functional rehabilitation programs.
  • Promote workplace safety and infection prevention practices during all therapy sessions.
  • Ensure proper handling, maintenance, and safe use of occupational therapy equipment and rehabilitation materials.
  • Identify patients requiring specialized rehabilitation services and facilitate timely referrals.
  • Collect rehabilitation statistics and service delivery data for planning and operational improvement.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives aimed at improving rehabilitation services.
  • Contribute to departmental audits, research activities, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Conduct community awareness programs promoting disability prevention, rehabilitation services, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Offer guidance to caregivers on long-term rehabilitation strategies.
  • Participate in outreach clinics and community rehabilitation activities where assigned.
  • Attend departmental meetings, professional workshops, seminars, and continuous learning programs.
  • Uphold professional ethics, patient dignity, confidentiality, and respect throughout service delivery.
  • Comply with all county government policies, healthcare regulations, and occupational therapy practice standards.
  • Support emergency rehabilitation interventions whenever required.
  • Mentor students or junior rehabilitation personnel during supervised clinical practice where applicable.
  • Participate in planning rehabilitation resource requirements and service improvements.
  • Maintain excellent communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Perform additional duties assigned within the Department of Health Services that are consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.
  • Valid Practicing License where applicable.
  • Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body where required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical healthcare practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
