Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment installed within county health facilities.
- Diagnose technical faults affecting medical devices and recommend effective repair solutions.
- Perform routine servicing to improve equipment efficiency and operational reliability.
- Repair approved medical equipment using established engineering procedures and safety standards.
- Inspect newly installed medical equipment to verify proper functionality before operational use.
- Maintain detailed maintenance logs for every inspection, repair, and servicing activity undertaken.
- Update equipment history records to support effective asset management and lifecycle planning.
- Conduct routine testing of hospital equipment to confirm compliance with performance specifications.
- Assist healthcare personnel by providing technical guidance on the proper operation of medical equipment.
- Ensure medical devices comply with applicable safety regulations and engineering standards.
- Participate in periodic inventory verification of biomedical equipment, hospital furniture, and engineering assets.
- Record equipment movement, transfers, disposals, and replacements accurately within inventory systems.
- Support implementation of departmental biomedical engineering projects and technical improvement initiatives.
- Collect engineering service information for reporting and health information management purposes.
- Assist in evaluating equipment performance trends to identify recurring technical issues.
- Recommend replacement of obsolete or uneconomical equipment where necessary.
- Coordinate with procurement teams during technical evaluation of medical equipment acquisitions.
- Inspect utilities and engineering installations supporting hospital operations.
- Monitor equipment performance after repairs to ensure sustainable functionality.
- Report technical risks that may compromise patient safety or healthcare service delivery.
- Ensure maintenance work complies with occupational safety and infection prevention procedures.
- Support installation, calibration, and commissioning of approved medical equipment.
- Prepare technical reports summarizing completed maintenance activities and equipment status.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives involving biomedical engineering services.
- Respond promptly to emergency equipment breakdowns affecting clinical operations.
- Safeguard engineering tools, testing instruments, and maintenance resources.
- Promote responsible utilization of hospital engineering assets.
- Participate in departmental meetings and technical planning activities.
- Work collaboratively with clinicians, administrators, and other technical personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality while handling technical documentation and institutional information.
- Continuously update professional knowledge on emerging biomedical technologies.
- Observe government regulations, institutional policies, and engineering best practices.
- Support training initiatives aimed at improving equipment handling by healthcare staff.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and engineering workflows.
- Perform any additional technical responsibilities assigned within the Department of Health Services in accordance with the scope of the position.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Medical Engineering from a recognized institution or an equivalent approved qualification.
- Registration with the Association of Medical Engineers of Kenya.
- Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized training institution.
- Demonstrated understanding of biomedical equipment maintenance principles.
- Ability to work within public healthcare environments.
- Commitment to ethical professional practice.
- Strong technical problem
