Responsibilities include performing refraction tests, prescribing corrective lenses, detecting and managing common eye conditions, and identifying cases that require referral to ophthalmologists or specialized facilities. The role also involves screening for systemic conditions with ocular manifestations such as diabetes and hypertension. The successful candidate will provide patient education on eye health, preventive care, and proper use of prescribed lenses or medications. They will ensure accurate documentation of clinical findings, maintain updated patient records in the electronic medical system, and adhere to established clinical protocols and regulatory standards. Additionally, the Optometrist will support the optical unit by guiding patients in the selection of frames and lenses, ensuring appropriate fitting, and collaborating with suppliers to maintain adequate stock levels. - The Optometrist (Ophthalmologist/Optometrist) will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered eye care services in line with Equity Afya’s clinical standards and operational guidelines. - Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, ocular motility, and binocular vision. The Optometrist will perform refraction tests, prescribe corrective lenses, and diagnose common eye conditions such as conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome, allergic eye disease, and refractive disorders. Early detection and referral of complex cases, including glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and other ocular pathologies, will form a critical part of the role.
- The Optometrist will provide accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, diagnoses, prescriptions, and treatment plans using the electronic medical records system. Maintaining strict adherence to clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and regulatory compliance requirements is mandatory.
- The role also includes educating patients on proper eye care practices, preventive measures, and appropriate use of prescribed lenses or medications. The Optometrist will guide patients in selecting suitable frames and lenses, ensure proper fitting, and collaborate with suppliers to maintain adequate optical stock levels and inventory control.

- Diploma or bachelor
- Valid practicing license and registration with the relevant professional regulatory body in Kenya (e.g.
