Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses allocated by the Head of Department using effective learner-centered instructional approaches.
- Prepare comprehensive lesson plans, lecture notes, laboratory manuals, teaching resources, and assessment materials.
- Deliver high-quality lectures that encourage analytical thinking, engineering innovation, and practical problem-solving.
- Facilitate laboratory practical sessions while ensuring compliance with engineering laboratory safety procedures.
- Guide students during engineering design projects, practical assignments, and industrial-based learning activities.
- Develop, review, and continuously improve course outlines to maintain academic relevance and industry alignment.
- Participate in curriculum development and program review exercises within the department.
- Design fair, reliable, and competency-based examinations, assignments, quizzes, and continuous assessments.
- Mark examinations promptly and provide constructive academic feedback to students.
- Supervise undergraduate research projects and engineering innovation initiatives.
- Mentor students academically, professionally, and personally to support their educational success.
- Provide career guidance that prepares graduates for engineering practice and further academic advancement.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, faculty activities, and institutional committees whenever required.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in Mechanical Engineering and related disciplines.
- Prepare competitive research grant proposals to support departmental and institutional research priorities.
- Publish scholarly work in reputable peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Present research findings during local, regional, and international academic conferences.
- Participate in consultancy assignments that strengthen university-industry collaboration.
- Contribute to community engagement programs through engineering outreach initiatives.
- Maintain accurate academic records, attendance registers, assessment reports, and student progress documentation.
- Support quality assurance initiatives aimed at improving teaching standards and program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative teaching methodologies and academic resources.
- Integrate digital learning technologies into classroom instruction and practical learning environments.
- Encourage ethical engineering practice, sustainability, innovation, and responsible professional conduct.
- Assist in organizing engineering seminars, workshops, exhibitions, industrial visits, and academic events.
- Participate in student admission interviews, orientation programs, and graduation processes where required.
- Build productive relationships with industry stakeholders to enhance experiential learning opportunities.
- Promote teamwork, respect, diversity, inclusion, and academic integrity throughout all teaching activities.
- Remain informed about emerging technologies, engineering standards, and professional developments.
- Perform additional academic, administrative, or institutional responsibilities assigned by supervisors in support of the University's strategic objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized and accredited university together with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. Candidates must be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or an equivalent doctoral qualification and demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward completion. A minimum of three years of relevant post
- qualification professional experience is required, preferably combining university teaching, engineering practice, and applied research. Applicants should demonstrate proven ability to teach Mechanical Engineering courses at university level and contribute to curriculum development, laboratory instruction, student supervision, and academic quality enhancement. Registration with, or eligibility for registration with, the appropriate professional engineering body will be an added advantage where applicable.
