Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing systems across institutional buildings.
- Install new water supply pipelines, drainage systems, and plumbing fixtures.
- Repair leaking pipes, damaged valves, burst water lines, and faulty fittings.
- Diagnose plumbing faults using appropriate inspection techniques and tools.
- Maintain sewerage and drainage systems to ensure efficient wastewater disposal.
- Install, service, and replace sinks, taps, toilets, urinals, showers, and water heaters.
- Inspect plumbing infrastructure regularly to identify maintenance requirements.
- Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies to minimize operational interruptions.
- Replace defective plumbing accessories using approved installation procedures.
- Test newly installed plumbing systems for functionality and leak prevention.
- Ensure water distribution systems operate efficiently and reliably.
- Maintain water storage tanks and associated plumbing accessories.
- Support renovation and construction projects requiring plumbing services.
- Read and interpret plumbing layouts, diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Recommend practical maintenance improvements to increase system reliability.
- Monitor plumbing equipment performance and report abnormal conditions.
- Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance activities.
- Prepare lists of required plumbing materials and replacement components.
- Ensure maintenance tools remain clean, secure, and serviceable.
- Comply with occupational health and safety regulations during all assignments.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment while performing duties.
- Observe environmental conservation practices during maintenance operations.
- Work collaboratively with electricians, builders, and maintenance technicians.
- Assist contractors during plumbing installations and infrastructure upgrades.
- Conduct routine inspections of washrooms and sanitation facilities.
- Repair blocked drainage systems using appropriate techniques.
- Minimize water losses by detecting hidden leaks early.
- Ensure plumbing installations comply with applicable standards.
- Support inventory management of plumbing materials and spare parts.
- Maintain clean work areas after completing maintenance assignments.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance planning activities.
- Report recurring plumbing issues with practical recommendations.
- Assist in preparing maintenance progress reports for supervisors.
- Provide technical guidance to junior support staff when assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding institutional infrastructure information.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and accountability at all times.
- Adapt to changing maintenance priorities and emergency situations.
- Attend safety briefings and technical development sessions.
- Support institutional sustainability initiatives related to water conservation.
- Perform any other plumbing-related duties assigned by authorized supervisors.
Qualifications & Requirements
- KCSE Mean Grade D (Plain) or equivalent qualification.
- Government Trade Test Certificate Grade III in Plumbing/Pipe Fitting or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Certificate in Plumbing and Drainage will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant plumbing experience in a similar industry.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices.
- Practical knowledge of plumbing systems, drainage, and water supply installations.
- Ability to diagnose and repair plumbing faults efficiently.
- Strong understanding of plumbing tools, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and maintenance instructions.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem
- solving abilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance assignments.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities.
- High level of integrity and professional conduct.
