Job Description

The County Public Service Board invites applications from qualified and dedicated candidates for the position of **ECDE Teacher II** in the Education and Vocational Training Department. The successful candidate will support the delivery of quality Early Childhood Development and Education by creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment where young children can develop academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and creatively. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver daily classroom activities that align with the approved ECDE curriculum and support meaningful learning experiences.
  • Build a welcoming classroom atmosphere that promotes safety, respect, inclusion, and active participation by every child.
  • Produce creative teaching aids and learning resources that encourage exploration, imagination, and practical understanding.
  • Facilitate educational play, storytelling, music, movement, art, and hands-on activities that nurture holistic child development.
  • Observe each child's academic, behavioural, and developmental progress to identify strengths and areas requiring additional support.
  • Keep accurate attendance registers and ensure learner records are updated consistently throughout the school term.
  • Conduct continuous assessments and use the findings to improve instructional planning and individual learner support.
  • Compile assessment reports, developmental portfolios, and other educational records within established timelines.
  • Introduce appropriate intervention strategies for children experiencing learning, behavioural, or developmental challenges.
  • Apply fair, positive, and age-appropriate behaviour management approaches that encourage self-discipline and mutual respect.
  • Uphold child safeguarding standards by maintaining a secure, healthy, and protective learning environment at all times.
  • Ensure classrooms, play areas, and educational resources remain clean, organized, and suitable for daily use.
  • Supervise learners during classroom lessons, outdoor play, educational visits, assemblies, and school functions.
  • Adapt instructional approaches to accommodate learners with different abilities, backgrounds, and educational needs.
  • Encourage curiosity, creativity, communication, collaboration, confidence, and independent thinking through engaging learning experiences.
  • Utilize locally available materials to enrich classroom instruction and promote practical learning opportunities.
  • Contribute actively to curriculum planning, academic discussions, and school-based educational improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with fellow teachers to exchange ideas, strengthen instructional practices, and improve learner achievement.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with parents and guardians regarding learner progress, attendance, and wellbeing.
  • Participate in parent engagement activities that strengthen partnerships between families and the school community.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues, school leadership, community representatives, and other education stakeholders.
  • Support initiatives that promote learner health, nutrition, hygiene, safety, and overall wellbeing within the school environment.
  • Coordinate classroom projects and activities that encourage environmental responsibility, citizenship, and social awareness.
  • Take part in co-curricular programmes that enrich learners' talents, interests, confidence, and personal development.
  • Assist in organizing school events, educational exhibitions, learner performances, and other academic activities.
  • Safeguard school property through responsible use, proper storage, and careful management of teaching and learning materials.
  • Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, classroom schedules, and instructional documentation as required.
  • Submit learner performance records and progress reports accurately within the prescribed reporting periods.
  • Contribute to internal quality assurance activities that support continuous improvement in teaching standards.
  • Strengthen professional knowledge by attending workshops, seminars, mentoring sessions, and other capacity-building programmes.
  • Demonstrate integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and professionalism in every aspect of service delivery.
  • Promote equality, diversity, mutual respect, and inclusive participation throughout classroom and school activities.
  • Strengthen foundational literacy, numeracy, communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills among young learners.
  • Support school leadership in implementing educational policies, institutional objectives, and approved operational procedures.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the school administration that are consistent with the duties of the ECDE Teacher II position.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) where applicable.
  • Valid professional and academic certificates from recognized institutions.
  • Good understanding of the Competency
  • Based Curriculum (CBC) or relevant ECDE curriculum.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child
  • centered learning approaches.
  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya where applicable.
