• Interns selected for the Kenya Ports Authority Internship/Apprenticeship Program will be responsible for supporting departmental activities while gaining practical experience in their respective fields. The specific duties will vary depending on the department of placement; however, interns will work under supervision to assist with operational, technical, administrative, and project-related tasks.
• Interns will support daily departmental operations by assisting with documentation, research, data entry, reporting, and administrative tasks. They will participate in departmental meetings, planning sessions, and project discussions to understand how various units coordinate operations within the organization. Interns will also assist in maintaining accurate records and preparing reports that support departmental performance and decision-making.
• Those placed in engineering and technical departments will assist with equipment maintenance, inspection processes, technical documentation, and project implementation activities. They will learn about safety standards, operational procedures, and technical processes involved in port operations, marine engineering, electrical systems, and infrastructure development.
• Interns working in information technology departments will assist with system maintenance, technical support, data management, and technology-related projects aimed at improving efficiency and digital transformation within the organization. Similarly, interns in finance and accounting departments will assist with financial documentation, reporting, reconciliations, and other accounting tasks while learning financial management practices within a public institution.
• Interns in corporate departments such as marketing, communications, and human resources will assist with stakeholder engagement activities, communication campaigns, recruitment processes, training coordination, and customer experience initiatives. They may also support the preparation of internal communications, marketing materials, and public relations initiatives.
• All interns will be expected to adhere to organizational policies, maintain professionalism, respect confidentiality of organizational information, and follow workplace safety guidelines. They will also participate in training sessions, mentorship programs, and performance evaluations to support their professional growth.
