The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is a State Corporation established under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, with the mandate to manage, develop, rehabilitate, and maintain national trunk roads across Kenya. In line with its strategic objectives of leveraging technology to enhance service delivery, the Authority invites applications from suitably qualified and competent professionals for the position of GIS Officer, Grade 7, within the Directorate of Highway Design & Survey. The GIS Officer will support the development, operationalization, and continuous improvement of the Authority’s Geo-Information System (GIS) framework. The role is central to strengthening spatial data management, improving data-driven planning, and enhancing efficiency in infrastructure development and maintenance operations. The officer will contribute to ensuring that accurate, reliable, and up-to-date geospatial information is available to support highway planning, feasibility studies, design processes, construction supervision, asset management, and maintenance programming. The successful candidate will participate in the development, updating, and maintenance of GIS databases and support the integration of spatial and non-spatial datasets from multiple departments and external stakeholders. The role involves conducting spatial analysis, generating thematic maps, and producing technical reports and visualizations to inform decision-making. The officer will also assist in the customization and enhancement of GIS applications, including web-based and mobile mapping solutions, to meet evolving organizational needs. Responsibilities for GIS Officer, Grade 7 (Ref. No. KeNHA/GIS OFFICER/03/2025)-2 Positions in Kenya
- The duties and responsibilities of the GIS Officer will include, but not be limited to:
- A. Databases & Analysis
- Supporting the development of a framework for GIS operationalization within the Authority.
- Assisting in the preparation of annual work plans and budgets for GIS-related activities.
- Collecting, collating, and compiling relevant spatial and attribute datasets required to populate the GIS databases.
- Supporting the development, maintenance, updating, and administration of GIS databases.
- Integrating data from multiple internal and external sources into centralized GIS databases.
- Supporting the formulation and implementation of GIS data-sharing protocols and workflows across departments.
- Performing standard spatial analysis functions including overlay analysis, buffering, network analysis, and geostatistical assessments.
- Creating thematic maps, charts, dashboards, and graphical visualizations to communicate spatial insights effectively.
- Assisting in the preparation of technical reports, briefs, and presentations based on GIS outputs.
- Designing and customizing digital maps, layouts, symbology, legends, and cartographic elements using GIS software.
- Updating existing maps and spatial datasets with new field data and changes.
- Supporting GIS project planning, scheduling data updates, and implementing quality control procedures.
- Maintaining GIS database documentation, metadata records, and version control.
- Providing user support services and troubleshooting GIS-related technical issues.
- Supporting in-house training and capacity-building initiatives for staff on GIS applications and tools.
- B. Applications Development
- Supporting the development and implementation of GIS operational frameworks and system enhancements.
- Assisting in developing and customizing GIS application programs to meet user requirements.
- Supporting management and maintenance of in-house GIS applications.
- Assisting in developing web-based and mobile GIS mapping and visualization applications.
- Supporting integration of GIS platforms with other Authority systems such as asset management, finance, and project monitoring systems.
- Assisting in implementing GIS data-sharing standards and automated workflows.
- Preparing periodic reports and presentations on GIS application performance.
- Providing ongoing technical support to GIS users.
- Supporting staff training on GIS tools, platforms, and applications.

- Graduate Membership with the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK)
- Computer Society of Kenya
- ICT Authority
- or Geospatial Society of Kenya (Goks).
- Proficiency in computer applications and GIS software tools.
- Strong knowledge of GIS software (e.g.
- ArcGIS
- QGIS
- or equivalent platforms)
- Database management skills (PostgreSQL/Post GIS

- or equivalent)
- Experience in spatial data analysis and cartography
- Understanding of geospatial data standards and metadata management
