Responsibilities for Land Surveyor, Grade 7 (Ref. No. KeNHA/LAND SURVEYOR/02/2025) in Kenya

• The duties and responsibilities of the Land Surveyor will include a broad range of technical and professional functions aimed at supporting infrastructure development and safeguarding public land assets under the mandate of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
• The officer will carry out basic and intermediate survey field assignments, including mapping, traversing, leveling, and establishment of horizontal and vertical survey controls for road infrastructure projects. This will involve setting out alignments, verifying benchmarks, and ensuring that survey control points meet the required accuracy standards for highway design and construction works.
• The Land Surveyor will undertake small and medium area cadastral surveys, topographical surveys, sub-divisional schemes, site surveys, and general engineering surveys in accordance with approved specifications and survey regulations. The role will require conducting detailed ground investigations to determine land features, property boundaries, contours, and physical developments that may affect project implementation.
• The officer will conduct preliminary quality control checks on cadastral and boundary surveys to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and technical standards. This includes reviewing survey computations, validating coordinates, confirming boundary positions, and ensuring proper documentation before submission to relevant authorities.
• The position also involves searching for, compiling, analyzing, and verifying survey data and land records from relevant government institutions to facilitate project planning, land acquisition, and compensation processes. The Land Surveyor will perform field observations using modern survey equipment such as Automatic Levels, Total Stations, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), ensuring proper calibration and adherence to operational procedures.
• Additional responsibilities include processing field survey data using approved geospatial and mapping software, preparing accurate survey computations, and generating detailed maps, plans, drawings, and digital spatial datasets for engineering and legal purposes. The officer will prepare comprehensive field survey reports outlining methodologies, observations, findings, and recommendations.
• The Land Surveyor will also maintain survey instruments and equipment to ensure operational efficiency, enforce compliance with survey laws and professional standards, and assist in protecting the Authority’s land assets through accurate boundary verification and proper documentation of road reserves.
