Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) invites applications from qualified, competent, and highly motivated individuals for the position of TVET Trainer-Science Laboratory Technology. The successful candidates will play a critical role in delivering competency-based training in Science Laboratory Technology in accordance with the approved TVET curriculum, national education standards, and industry requirements. The TVET Trainer will facilitate both theoretical instruction and hands-on practical laboratory sessions to ensure trainees acquire the technical knowledge, practical competencies, and professional attitudes required in modern scientific and research laboratories. The role involves developing detailed lesson plans, schemes of work, instructional materials, laboratory manuals, and assessment tools aligned with Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) principles. Trainers will ensure that learning outcomes are clearly defined, measurable, and responsive to industry needs. The successful candidates will guide students in laboratory safety procedures, including safe chemical handling, equipment operation, waste disposal, and adherence to occupational health and safety regulations. They will train learners on preparation of reagents, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, specimen collection and handling, quality control processes, and accurate recording and interpretation of laboratory results. In addition, the TVET Trainer will design, administer, and evaluate continuous assessments, practical examinations, and final competency evaluations to monitor student progress. The trainer will prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work, laboratory manuals, instructional materials, and practical exercises to enhance student learning outcomes. They will conduct lectures, demonstrations, laboratory practical sessions, and supervised experiments while actively engaging students to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- The trainer will instruct students on laboratory safety protocols, proper handling of chemicals, waste disposal procedures, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. They will develop, administer, and mark continuous assessments, practical tests, and final examinations, ensuring fair, consistent, and objective evaluation of student competence. Supervising students during industrial attachments and monitoring their performance in collaboration with industry mentors will also be a key responsibility.
