Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), a leading public university in Kenya, is seeking qualified, competent, and highly motivated candidates for the position of TVET Trainer – Computer Science. This is a full-time teaching opportunity based at the University’s Main Campus in Bondo, Siaya County, Kenya. The TVET Trainer-Computer Science will be responsible for delivering competency-based education and training (CBET) in Computer Science and related Information and Communication Technology (ICT) disciplines in accordance with approved TVET curriculum standards and national education guidelines. The role focuses on equipping trainees with practical, industry-relevant skills in programming, networking, cybersecurity, database management, web development, software engineering, computer systems maintenance, and emerging digital technologies. The successful candidate will prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, training manuals, and digital instructional materials to facilitate effective teaching and learning. Duties will include conducting classroom lectures, supervising hands-on laboratory sessions, guiding coding and system development projects, and administering continuous assessments, practical examinations, and final evaluations. The Trainer will also mentor students, supervise industrial attachments, and collaborate with industry partners to ensure training remains aligned with current labor market demands. In addition, the Trainer will participate in curriculum development and review processes, departmental meetings, quality assurance initiatives, and academic research or innovation projects within the University. - The TVET Trainer-Computer Science will be responsible for delivering competency-based education and training (CBET) in accordance with approved TVET curriculum standards, national education regulations, and institutional academic policies. The successful candidate will undertake a broad range of teaching, academic, and administrative responsibilities aimed at ensuring high-quality training and positive learner outcomes.
- The Trainer will prepare comprehensive schemes of work, detailed lesson plans, instructional materials, practical manuals, and digital learning resources to support effective delivery of Computer Science and ICT-related courses. This will include designing structured training modules covering programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++, web development technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, database management systems, networking fundamentals, cybersecurity principles, operating systems, system analysis and design, and software development methodologies. The Trainer will ensure that all course content aligns with competency-based training requirements and industry standards.
- The role involves conducting classroom lectures, facilitating interactive learning sessions, supervising hands-on laboratory practical, and guiding students through coding assignments and system development projects. The Trainer will promote experiential learning by engaging trainees in real-world problem-solving activities, collaborative projects, and innovation-based assignments to enhance practical competencies and employability skills. Continuous assessment tests, practical evaluations, coursework assignments, and final examinations will be administered and marked in accordance with institutional assessment policies.
- In addition, the Trainer will supervise student industrial attachments, coordinate with industry supervisors, and assess trainee performance to ensure training outcomes are aligned with labor market needs. The successful candidate will maintain accurate academic and attendance records, track student progress, and provide mentorship, academic advising, and career guidance to support learner success.
- The Trainer will also ensure proper utilization, maintenance, and security of computer laboratories, software systems, and ICT equipment, promptly reporting technical issues and resource requirements. Participation in curriculum development, quality assurance processes, departmental meetings, research initiatives, and community outreach programs will form part of the responsibilities. The position further requires integrating e-learning technologies and digital platforms into instructional delivery while fostering innovation, professionalism, ethical conduct, and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
