The TVET Trainer will facilitate both theoretical and practical instruction, ensuring that trainees acquire relevant knowledge, professional competencies, and ethical grounding necessary for effective counseling practice. The role involves curriculum implementation in line with the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) approach, preparation of schemes of work and lesson plans, development of training materials, continuous assessment of learners, and supervision of practical attachments and field placements. The Trainer will ensure that learning outcomes are achieved through interactive teaching methodologies, case studies, simulations, group discussions, and supervised practicum experiences. The Trainer will guide students in understanding core psychological theories, counseling techniques, mental health interventions, behavior management strategies, crisis intervention approaches, and ethical standards governing counseling practice. Emphasis will be placed on equipping trainees with practical skills in client assessment, report writing, treatment planning, confidentiality management, and professional documentation. Responsibilities for TVET Trainer-Counseling Psychology (9 Posts) in Kenya
- The TVET Trainer – Counseling Psychology will undertake the following duties and responsibilities in support of academic excellence and competency-based training standards at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology:
- The Trainer will deliver competency-based training in Counseling Psychology in accordance with approved TVET curriculum standards and the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework. This includes ensuring that all instructional activities are aligned with clearly defined learning outcomes and occupational standards relevant to the counseling profession.
- The successful candidate will prepare comprehensive lesson plans, schemes of work, instructional materials, assessment tools, and practical learning resources that facilitate effective knowledge transfer and skills development. The Trainer will conduct lectures, demonstrations, workshops, role-plays, simulations, case study discussions, and supervised practical sessions to enhance both theoretical understanding and applied counseling skills.
- The role includes developing, administering, and marking continuous assessments, practical examinations, and final evaluations in a fair, transparent, and timely manner. The Trainer will provide constructive feedback to learners to support improvement and mastery of competencies. Additionally, the Trainer will guide students during industrial attachment or field placement and assess their performance in collaboration with workplace supervisors to ensure meaningful practical exposure.
- The Trainer will provide academic advising and mentorship to students to support their academic progress, personal development, and professional readiness. This includes offering guidance on career pathways, ethical conduct, and workplace expectations. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, assessments, learner progress, and training activities will be a key responsibility.
- The successful candidate will participate in curriculum review, development, and validation processes to ensure that programs remain relevant to industry trends and mental health needs. The Trainer will ensure compliance with TVET Authority regulations, institutional policies, and professional counseling standards.
- Furthermore, the Trainer will promote ethical counseling practices, identify learners with special needs and provide appropriate support or referrals, engage in research and community outreach initiatives, contribute to quality assurance activities, and actively participate in departmental meetings, workshops, seminars, and institutional events aimed at continuous improvement and institutional growth.
