Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial leadership and serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Finance Officer and executive management.
- Direct all accounting operations while ensuring complete accuracy, transparency, and compliance with applicable financial regulations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements within established reporting timelines.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and consolidation of departmental and organizational budgets.
- Monitor budget implementation and recommend practical corrective measures whenever expenditure variances arise.
- Produce financial forecasts that support operational planning and long-term business sustainability.
- Coordinate cash flow planning to ensure adequate liquidity across all operational units.
- Supervise treasury activities, banking relationships, and cash management strategies.
- Analyze financial performance indicators and present actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
- Develop management reports that support evidence-based strategic decisions.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and financial records.
- Strengthen internal financial controls to safeguard organizational assets and minimize operational risks.
- Identify financial risks and develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Support annual business planning through comprehensive financial modelling and scenario analysis.
- Evaluate organizational financial performance against approved strategic objectives.
- Monitor compliance with taxation requirements, statutory obligations, and financial reporting standards.
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities while ensuring timely implementation of audit recommendations.
- Improve financial policies, procedures, and reporting systems to increase operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate financial documentation and ensure secure record management practices.
- Collaborate with department managers to provide financial guidance during project implementation.
- Review expenditure requests and verify alignment with approved budgets.
- Support resource mobilization initiatives through financial analysis and reporting.
- Prepare financial presentations for executive management, boards, and development partners.
- Monitor capital utilization and recommend opportunities for improved financial performance.
- Evaluate investment proposals and provide objective financial recommendations.
- Promote continuous improvement across finance functions through automation and process enhancement.
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop finance staff to achieve high professional standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify staff development opportunities.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and ethical financial practices throughout the finance department.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.
- Ensure organizational financial activities consistently reflect integrity, accountability, and responsible stewardship.
- Build productive working relationships with banks, auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Monitor changing financial regulations and recommend policy updates where necessary.
- Support implementation of organizational strategic initiatives from a financial perspective.
- Perform additional finance leadership responsibilities assigned by senior management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or another closely related discipline from a recognized institution. Possession of a master's degree will provide an added advantage. Applicants must hold a valid CPA (K) qualification, ACCA certification, or an equivalent internationally recognized professional accounting credential.
- Candidates should demonstrate extensive knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, budgeting methodologies, treasury management, financial analysis, taxation, internal controls, and risk management. Experience working within microfinance institutions, commercial banking, retail banking, enterprise lending, or financial services environments will be highly desirable.
- Strong analytical thinking, strategic planning, and financial modelling capabilities are essential. Applicants should possess excellent leadership abilities with proven experience managing finance teams, improving operational performance, and driving organizational efficiency. High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial reporting systems, ERP platforms, and accounting software is expected.
