The Assistant Accountant will become an integral member of our finance and administration team, supporting the delivery of accurate financial operations within a busy healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process customer invoices accurately while ensuring every healthcare service provided is billed according to approved pricing structures and organizational procedures.
- Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system while maintaining complete, accurate, and up-to-date financial records.
- Reconcile patient accounts, insurance claims, supplier statements, and general ledger balances on a regular basis to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and support collection activities by following up on overdue accounts professionally and courteously.
- Verify invoices, payment requests, receipts, and supporting documents before processing financial transactions.
- Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
- Support revenue recognition activities by ensuring transactions are recorded within the correct accounting periods.
- Maintain accurate cashbooks, journals, ledgers, and subsidiary accounting records.
- Process supplier payments while confirming compliance with internal approval procedures and procurement policies.
- Assist in preparing bank reconciliations and investigate any unreconciled transactions.
- Support external and internal audit exercises by organizing financial records and responding to audit information requests.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial records, patient billing information, and organizational data at all times.
- Collaborate with administration teams to ensure billing information is complete before invoices are issued.
- Update accounting databases with accurate financial information while ensuring consistency across financial systems.
- Assist with budget monitoring by comparing actual expenditure against approved budgets and reporting unusual variances.
- Ensure statutory deductions and financial obligations are processed accurately where applicable.
- Participate in improving accounting procedures that enhance operational efficiency and strengthen financial controls.
- Generate routine financial reports and schedules required by management.
- Assist in maintaining asset registers and updating depreciation schedules where required.
- Verify revenue reports against billing system records to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Support inventory-related financial reconciliations in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Respond professionally to billing inquiries from patients, insurers, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems for accounting documents.
- Report unusual financial trends, billing inconsistencies, or accounting irregularities to the Finance Manager promptly.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties assigned from time to time in support of departmental objectives and organizational financial excellence.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Applicants should possess CPA Part II or an equivalent recognized accounting qualification demonstrating a solid understanding of financial accounting principles, bookkeeping procedures, and accounting standards. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of practical experience performing accounting duties within a reputable organization, preferably in a healthcare or service
- oriented environment where billing accuracy and financial accountability are critical. Possession of a valid Certificate of Good Conduct is mandatory.
- The ideal candidate should demonstrate proficiency in computerized accounting applications, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) or similar digital financial platforms.
