Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute assigned ESG and sustainability assurance engagements while ensuring compliance with applicable professional standards and firm methodologies.
- Perform detailed reviews of sustainability information, ESG metrics, supporting evidence, and reporting processes to assess completeness and reliability.
- Evaluate internal control systems supporting environmental, social, governance, and climate-related reporting activities.
- Prepare comprehensive audit documentation, working papers, testing schedules, and engagement files that fully support assurance conclusions.
- Analyze sustainability data for consistency, accuracy, completeness, and alignment with reporting requirements.
- Apply professional judgement when identifying reporting gaps, control weaknesses, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Review work completed by Associates to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with engagement objectives.
- Provide constructive coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback that supports continuous professional growth among junior team members.
- Build productive relationships with clients through professional communication, responsiveness, and exceptional service delivery.
- Support engagement managers during planning meetings, risk assessments, fieldwork coordination, and reporting activities.
- Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, resource utilization, and project milestones while escalating significant issues promptly.
- Contribute to the preparation of assurance reports, management letters, presentations, and client deliverables.
- Research emerging ESG regulations, sustainability reporting standards, and assurance methodologies to strengthen technical capability.
- Apply knowledge of IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, GRI, SASB, Integrated Reporting, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and related frameworks during engagements.
- Assist organizations in understanding reporting expectations and improving sustainability disclosure quality through assurance recommendations.
- Participate in proposal development, client presentations, business development activities, and relationship management initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across audit, advisory, tax, risk, and consulting service lines.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information while consistently demonstrating professional ethics, independence, and objectivity.
- Identify operational, compliance, governance, climate, and sustainability-related risks that could affect assurance conclusions.
- Ensure engagement deliverables are completed accurately, professionally, and within agreed deadlines.
- Participate actively in technical training, internal knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuous professional development programs.
- Support innovation initiatives aimed at improving assurance methodologies, data analytics, and engagement efficiency.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills while managing multiple assignments with competing priorities.
- Travel within Kenya and other African countries whenever client engagements require regional support.
- Promote KPMG values by maintaining professionalism, integrity, accountability, collaboration, and commitment to quality in every assignment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or another closely related discipline.
- Professional certification or training in recognized sustainability reporting frameworks will be highly desirable.
- CPA or ACCA qualification, or demonstrable progress toward professional certification, is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of ESG assurance principles and sustainability reporting practices.
- Practical understanding of IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2).
- Familiarity with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), SASB Standards, Integrated Reporting Framework, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and related sustainability frameworks.
- Ability to evaluate ESG information using analytical thinking and evidence
- based assessment techniques.
- Strong report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and client relationship management skills.
- Excellent planning, prioritization, and time management capabilities.
- Ability to supervise, coach, and develop junior professionals.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other productivity applications.
