Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine repair and maintenance activities within the assigned technical specialization while following approved government procedures.
- Assist experienced technical officers in completing maintenance assignments safely, efficiently, and within established timelines.
- Carry out carpentry work such as repairing doors, windows, furniture, roofing structures, partitions, and wooden fittings where applicable.
- Undertake masonry activities including wall repairs, plastering, floor restoration, paving, and concrete maintenance as assigned.
- Execute welding tasks involving fabrication, joining, repair, and reinforcement of approved metallic structures and equipment.
- Perform painting assignments including surface preparation, finishing, protective coating application, and repainting of government facilities.
- Carry out plumbing repairs involving water supply systems, drainage lines, sanitary fittings, valves, taps, and related installations.
- Inspect assigned facilities regularly to identify maintenance requirements before they develop into major defects.
- Report technical faults, damaged equipment, and maintenance requirements promptly to supervisors.
- Ensure all repair activities meet established technical specifications and quality standards.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, and equipment responsibly and according to safety guidelines.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work materials in good working condition after every assignment.
- Observe occupational health, environmental, and workplace safety regulations at all times.
- Wear the recommended personal protective equipment while performing technical duties.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe workstations throughout assigned projects.
- Support preventive maintenance programmes aimed at extending the lifespan of government assets.
- Assist in estimating materials required for approved maintenance assignments.
- Record completed maintenance work accurately using prescribed reporting procedures.
- Participate in scheduled inspections and technical assessments of facilities.
- Work collaboratively with artisans from other technical disciplines during multidisciplinary maintenance projects.
- Respond promptly to urgent repair requests affecting institutional operations.
- Handle government property responsibly and prevent unnecessary material wastage.
- Follow instructions issued by supervisors and senior technical personnel.
- Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, discipline, honesty, and accountability in daily duties.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding official information encountered during service delivery.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency.
- Participate in departmental meetings, technical briefings, and workplace training programmes.
- Contribute to maintaining safe, functional, and reliable government infrastructure.
- Learn new maintenance techniques and improve practical trade competencies through supervised work experience.
- Perform any other lawful technical duties assigned by authorized supervisors in support of departmental objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Government Trade Test Certificate Grade III in Carpentry, Masonry, Welding, Painting, or Plumbing from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to public service.
