Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned rooms, offices, corridors, reception areas, washrooms, staircases, and common spaces according to approved housekeeping schedules.
  • Remove dust from furniture, windowsills, doors, fixtures, fittings, shelves, and other surfaces using appropriate cleaning techniques.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, polish, and sanitize floors to maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout assigned areas.
  • Prepare beds by changing bed linen, arranging bedding neatly, and ensuring comfortable presentation.
  • Collect, sort, wash, dry, fold, and organize institutional linen according to established laundry procedures.
  • Wash guest laundry and institutional clothing carefully while following proper handling instructions.
  • Iron linen, uniforms, and garments neatly to achieve professional presentation standards.
  • Replenish cleaning materials, toiletries, detergents, and housekeeping supplies before stock levels become insufficient.
  • Maintain accurate storage of cleaning chemicals and ensure safe handling in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Inspect assigned areas regularly and report maintenance issues requiring technical attention.
  • Keep cleaning equipment in excellent working condition through routine inspection and proper care.
  • Wash cleaning tools, mops, buckets, brushes, and reusable equipment after use.
  • Store housekeeping equipment securely in designated storage locations after completing assigned duties.
  • Dispose of waste responsibly while observing environmental conservation and waste segregation procedures.
  • Follow infection prevention, sanitation, and hygiene protocols during daily operations.
  • Observe occupational health and workplace safety standards while performing all assigned duties.
  • Support preparation of accommodation facilities before occupancy by ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
  • Assist with periodic deep-cleaning activities in accordance with departmental schedules.
  • Respond promptly to housekeeping requests assigned by supervisors.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding institutional operations encountered during daily work.
  • Follow established work schedules while demonstrating punctuality and reliability.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues to achieve departmental performance targets.
  • Exercise care when handling government property to minimize damage and unnecessary replacement costs.
  • Participate actively in workplace orientation, coaching sessions, and continuous skills improvement activities.
  • Maintain professional appearance and observe official dress requirements where applicable.
  • Record completed assignments accurately whenever reporting procedures require documentation.
  • Ensure cleaning materials are used efficiently to minimize unnecessary wastage.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and report them immediately to supervisors.
  • Support inventory checks involving housekeeping supplies and equipment.
  • Handle assigned responsibilities with honesty, discipline, accountability, and respect for institutional regulations.
  • Perform additional housekeeping-related duties that may reasonably be assigned by authorized supervisors in support of departmental service delivery objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Formal training in Housekeeping and/or Laundry lasting not less than two (2) months from a recognized institution.
  • Eligibility to work within the Government of Kenya subject to applicable public service requirements.
