Job Description

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) is seeking an accomplished communications professional to join its leadership team as Principal Corporate Communications Officer. This position presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, reputation management, and institutional branding within Kenya's dynamic financial services environment. The successful candidate will play a central role in strengthening public confidence in the Authority while supporting communication initiatives that align with its regulatory mandate and long-term strategic objectives. Working closely with senior management, the officer will lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of integrated communication programmes that promote transparency, accountability, and stakeholder confidence. The role requires an individual capable of developing meaningful engagement strategies for government institutions, financial market participants, investors, development partners, media organizations, and the general public. Through innovative communication approaches, the successful candidate will enhance the Authority's visibility while ensuring consistent messaging across all communication platforms. The position also involves providing strategic advice on public relations, media engagement, corporate branding, digital communication, and organizational reputation management. The successful applicant will oversee communication campaigns that support institutional priorities, coordinate high-profile events, strengthen partnerships with local and international stakeholders, and ensure the Authority maintains a professional and credible public image. In addition, the officer will guide communication responses during sensitive situations, ensuring timely, accurate, and coordinated dissemination of information that protects institutional integrity. The Principal Corporate Communications Officer will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying emerging communication trends, recommending innovative engagement techniques, and supporting modernization of digital communication channels. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of comprehensive corporate communication strategies that support the Authority's strategic priorities and institutional objectives.
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with government agencies, regulatory institutions, industry associations, investors, development partners, and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Coordinate media engagement activities, including press briefings, interviews, media responses, and proactive publicity initiatives.
  • Develop communication plans that strengthen the Authority's reputation and enhance public understanding of its regulatory role.
  • Oversee execution of institutional branding initiatives while ensuring consistent application of corporate identity standards.
  • Coordinate planning and successful delivery of conferences, stakeholder forums, exhibitions, public awareness campaigns, and official corporate events.
  • Supervise development, editing, approval, and publication of high-quality communication materials for diverse audiences.
  • Coordinate production of newsletters, annual publications, speeches, presentations, brochures, reports, and promotional materials.
  • Manage digital communication platforms by ensuring timely publication of engaging and informative content across approved online channels.
  • Monitor public opinion, media coverage, and communication trends to provide strategic recommendations for reputation enhancement.
  • Coordinate procurement, supervision, and performance evaluation of external communication consultants, creative agencies, and media service providers.
  • Support implementation of customer engagement initiatives that promote excellent service delivery and responsive stakeholder communication.
  • Lead crisis communication planning and coordinate timely dissemination of accurate information during sensitive situations.
  • Prepare communication briefs, executive reports, and stakeholder updates for senior management decision-making.
  • Mentor and supervise communication staff while promoting teamwork, accountability, innovation, and continuous professional development.
  • Develop communication performance indicators and evaluate effectiveness of campaigns using measurable outcomes.
  • Promote collaboration with local and international institutions involved in communication capacity development and knowledge exchange.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen organizational visibility through innovative campaigns and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure communication activities comply with organizational policies, applicable regulations, and established governance standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by recommending modern communication practices, emerging technologies, and efficient business processes that enhance organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Communication and Media Studies, or another closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Management course lasting at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Membership in the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) in good standing.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications relevant to communication and administration.
